Making Buildings Work

Highland Commissioning focuses on helping project teams deliver a fully functional building to the owner on schedule, which means that our work as an owner’s representative should ideally begin in the early design phases of a project. During construction — and well before final occupancy — our team will help test the systems that are in place and correct any errors before the owner experiences them for themselves by way of staff complaints of noise, temperature issues, or other equipment failures. The result? A building that works from the moment the owner moves in and a project team that can celebrate compliments on a job well done.

Design

In design, our commissioning team can help keep a running dialogue about end-goals, best practices, design and sequence troubleshooting, equipment considerations, long-term maintenance considerations, and a close watch on the schedule.

Construction

During construction, our team will help drive the project schedule and test the building systems for quality control. We will: test drive controls systems (until they work!); check all point-to-point connections; run every scenario for each season, alarm and equipment failure; and identify any deficiencies before owner occupancy.

retro commissioning Existing Systems

No matter the age of an existing building, complications frequently arise with MEP systems and their associated controls. Some facilities may only need a few tweaks and revisions, while others may not have ever been fully functional per design. Our team takes a forensic approach to revive systems back to their original design intent through the use of technology and system improvements when applicable.
